The Organisation

The Les Corts Mental Hygiene Centre started out in the summer of 1975 on the initiative of a group of professionals, with the aim of developing a community mental health project.

The objectives were: to promote mental health, the prevention of mental illness and health education; to coordinate the activities and provide support in primary health care, social, community and educational services; to deliver psychiatric care and work in the areas of diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation; and develop continuing education, teaching and research into mental health.

With this aim, the non-profit Les Corts Mental Hygiene Centre Association was set up in 1978 and later, in 2002, the Les Corts Mental Hygiene Centre Private Foundation, devoted to the expansion of social resources, and in 2006, L'Associació Les Corts per la Inserció Laboral (ALCIL) [Les Corts Association for the Promotion of Insertion into Work].

Through the Association and the Foundation, the Organisation develops its activities through contracts, agreements, subsidies and grants from public and private organisations, in particular from the Department of Health, the Department of Social Action and Citizenship, Barcelona City Council, the Districts of Les Corts and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi and from social foundations and projects.

In 2005, our Organisation received the Medal of Honour from Barcelona City Council.
